Racewalk Calendar for races I’m considering (depending on $ and time)

Bolded are near-definites that I’m doing. I found these via the racewalking Yahoo! group. Nonbolded depends on if I can afford them and get the time to do them- and have a means of getting to them (my mom=Long Island, public transit elsewhere).

ALSO. Question for fellow racewalkers- were Grand Prix results posted anywhere?> I’ve been looking for them

Doing my strength and abs this morning was tougher than usual; i felt tired and sluggish. However, i toughed it out, and while I was more sluggish than i ought to have been doing stairs, the slideboard and other cardio stuff, I picked up about halfway through to the point where jumping onto the medium sized box was a cinch. In fact, it’s getting TOO easy… I think I’ll attempt the biggest soon, especially since it looks much shorter than t did in my brain, meaning I can probably handle it! Besides, if I fail- OOOOHH a couple of leg bruises BIG DEAL.

In regards to racewalk training, it’s an X-day because Wednesday=my very long day. I could likely use it anyhow, if the feeling overtired with cardiovascular-related stuff is any indicator- I’ve been training hard, and I was at the gym, so i did SOMETHING. One X day a week doesn’t kill athletes and prevents the detriments of  overtraining.

Side note: If you know an arm to be less-than-reliable owing to what matches every symptom on the list of nerve damage (which I cannot verify until I have health insurance), do not hold an open container in the hand associated with that arm. Learned that the hard way with a maple ice latte this morning- talk about humiliating!

BUT. Still stronger than April, and it’s not like it’s readily apparent that I’m less than 100% health unless I get my (or I tell them. Or they actually read my rambles.) Believe me, i’m working my utmost to get to that 100% so the nerve damage, or whatever is up with the shoulder injured in the  February crash that I still have minor issues in June, is a total nonentity! I had what I’m now going to call a “post-crash PR” (until I break my *actual* PR) with the last race I did! I’m MUCH healthier than I was with my first couple of races post-crash, and my 3k split in that *5k* beat my sorry excuse of a 3k time from Aprilish by a LOT. =]

Otherwise, great week so far! And gotta say, very glad the Lord gave me the sort of life that makes me a risk-taker =] I get my bitter moments for many circumstances i’m REALLY not willing to put on blast (cuz face it, I’m a secretive person), but for most part having a difficult life has done me more good than harm in my character! [= It’s given me resilience, mental  fortitude, perseverance, the ability to get back up on my feet when knocked down (no matter how hard), the ability to distinguish between right and wrong and the wisdom to know that just because the rules (written or unwritten) say something is right doesn’t necessarily make it morally right- all necessary traits for succeeding both in sports and in life.

Now off on break- my stomach just growled at me, an indicator that I’d best eat something. My plans- mission to Bowery to get my ID, then hitting up the Whole Foods there for a ClifBar- far more nutritious than the Chewy Bar my mom gave me. I need iron, according to the way my body is acting, and the Chewy bar doesn’t really have any. I’ll give my Chewy bar to someone who needs it more than me; i’m near-broke but i can still afford the dollar for a ClifBar at Whole Foods. Some people don’t even have that. Debating whether I can afford splurging on some dark leafy greens too

I just thought of how long my hair was in this photo of me racewalking 2 years ago (when my hair had only JUST gotten ponytailable length) to now. My messy buns’ stray pieces and the ends of braids when i have those are longer than that ponytail!

The photo in question from when I had short hair.

Rave with a messy bun… blurry pic but you can tell that bun is much bigger than that little ponytail in the top pic!

Mind=blown

10 Songs on my “Prerace” Playlist

#AllAthletesKnow the importance of pregame/prerace music. Here’s what I listen to when getting my game face on! CONCLUSION: I listen to some strange music xD

I got through the 5k racewalk at the Grand Prix final at Sachem East (shoutout to my bestie for the support!), heat, shoulder, and all. My time ended up being a palindrome as my coach pointed out *giggles* Now I just gotta find out how I did in the overall rankings. I’m really sore, mainly on my right side in the shin/hip flexor/calf/hamstring, but it’ll pass- and I have another race this Saturday, this time at Icahn Stadium. Here’s hoping for even faster!

Today’s attack plan: 3-4 miles, a couple of hours in the gym and then shooting to Jackson Heights for the night for some fun time with one of my library school biddies and her partner! =D

RACEWALKING IS NOT POWERWALKING (awesomeness from @racewalkprobs on Twitter)

What Type of Runner Are You? Race Your Best by Knowing Your Pre-Race Personality

This is very much applicable to racewalking also. I am most DEFINITELY a loner when it comes to my pre-race personality! i like the music and they even nailed my preferred type of music- rap, hard rock, and add in METAL RAWR!!!!!!

Riverhead=league champs!

Nice job girls! I remember how epic it was when my team got it when I was an ickle freshie and again when I was a senior- the latter especially amazing because we beat the team that everyone always says couldn’t be beaten, Bay Shore! Bay Shore never lost a dual meet before I was a senior and hasn’t lost one since. Anyhow, AMAZING! I’m glad to see a racewalker got in too, nice job Denise!
